Yet Another Source of Blog Ideas

by Peter Renton on February 8, 2010

In this third part of our series on blog ideas, I present one of the best sources for new blog ideas: your customers. You can feature your customers in one of several ways. Depending on your industry, you can feature how your customers use your product or service with a mini case study. You can deal with questions your customers have, this can be very useful if they are common questions. Or you can show how your customers have built on your product or service to create something unique.

My experience has been that people love reading about other small businesses, particularly those in the same or a similar industry. The trick is to not focus on your own company, focus on your customer. You certainly don’t want these blog posts to be a blatant advertisement for your company, that will turn readers away. But showcasing how your company has really helped your customer, that can be useful for everyone.

If you are communicating with your customers on a regular basis you will find that they can be an excellent source of blog ideas. A simple conversation can spur an idea for a blog topic and you should always be on the lookout for interesting people to feature in a post. Interspersing a customer feature with your other blog posts will make your blog more engaging and readable.
